Instructions notated by Honey Goldfein-Perry
By any other name ... The song began as a haunting melody called "Tango to Evora" written by
Canadian composer/singer Loreena McKennitt for the National Film Board of Canada documentary,
"The Burning Times." Popular Greek singer Haris Alexiou wrote Greek lyrics to this music,
called "Tango tis Nefelis" (Nefeli's Tango) and sings it beautifully. (In Greek, nefeli means
cloud; it is both the name of a cloud nymph and it is also a woman's name.) The Hebrew song
title is Nefeli. It has also been sung in Turkish, Hungarian, Gypsy Guitar. There is also the
Albanian version which is used for the dance. "Sonata" is the dance title.
